Conference grants 2025

Are you planning a conference that will be held in Umeå? Then you can apply for funding for it! Umeå municipality, Region Västerbotten and Umeå University annually sets aside funding for conferences.
The grant amount is based on the estimated number of attendees, with a maximum total of SEK 60,000.

AQUARIUS Funding: Marine and Freshwater Infrastructure Access

Marine and freshwater researchers can apply for access to Europe’s leading aquatic research infrastructures. A total of €4 million will be available to support research projects that contribute to the objectives of the EU Mission: Restore Our Ocean and Waters, as well as travel costs.
UArctic Entrepreneurship Fund 2025

Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences scholarships and grants

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences is announcing scholarships and researchs grants in several disciplines. Doctoral students and PhD holders can apply for between 200,000 and 5,200,000 SEK for either research funding or scholarships. Funding may be sought for purposes such as project operating costs, expenses for international stays, or conference travel where own research results are presented. Read more

The Arctic Field Grant supports fieldwork for students and researchers collecting data in Svalbard and Jan Mayen. Application to the call opens six weeks prior to the deadline.
Apply for seed funding for new collaborations
Deadline: 17 November
Would you like to start a research collaboration on a societal challenge linked to the UN’s Agenda 2030? As a researcher or teacher at Umeå University, you can now apply for up to SEK 85,000 in seed funding to launch projects together with Region Västerbotten or the municipalities of Skellefteå, Umeå or Örnsköldsvik. The funding is intended as a stepping stone towards larger external applications. Read more

FORMAS: Blue transformation – coast and sea

Researchers can apply for up to 30 million SEK for a three or four year long innovation project that contributes to a better environment in coastal and marine areas.

ERC Consolidator Grant 2026

The Industrial Doctoral School for Research and Innovation (IDS) announces funding for a doctoral student in collaborative projects. As a researcher at Umeå University, qualified to act as principal supervisor to a doctoral student, you can apply for doctoral resources together with an external organisation as co-applicant. Every third year
Are you a young researcher aspiring to lead pioneering research in natural sciences, technology, or medicine? Seize the opportunity to join the SSF flagship programme, Future Research Leaders. 16 researchers will receive SEK 15 million each, alongside comprehensive leadership training over five years. To be eligible, you must have completed your doctoral degree between 2018 and 2020, and work full-time at a Swedish university or research institute during the grant period.
