Curious how realistic gaming environments can be built from real-world geodata?

In this workshop, you'll learn how to import geographical data from actual urban spaces into Unity and transform it into interactive 3D environments. Whether you're interested in game design, urban simulation, or digital storytelling, this session will show you how GIS data can lay the foundation for immersive, playable worlds.

Humlab / ZoomWorkshop/en/events/infravis-workshop-gis-data-and-game-design_12141766/2025-10-16T13:00:00+02:002025-10-16T15:00:00+02:00/en/events/humlab-makerspace-your-internet-router--more-than-just-a-box_12122456/Humlab Makerspace: Your internet router – more than just a box? Most people have a router, but not everyone has explored all the settings – we'll cover that in this workshop!Tue, 21 Oct 2025 10:00:00 +0200
Most people have a router, but not everyone has explored all the settings – we'll cover that in this workshop!

Read more and register through the Swedish version of this event.
Humlab MakerspaceWorkshop/en/events/humlab-makerspace-your-internet-router--more-than-just-a-box_12122456/2025-10-21T10:00:00+02:002025-10-21T11:30:00+02:00/en/events/humlab-share-marco-van-leeuwen_12139544/Humlab Share: Marco van LeeuwenWith Marco van Leeuwen, Utrecht UniversityTue, 21 Oct 2025 13:15:00 +0200
Marco H.D. van Leeuwen (International Institute for Social History/ Utrecht University)

Register data have been massively used in history, the social and biomedical sciences. They cover nearly everyone in many places over the globe in a structured way. But they contain relatively little info. (Auto)biographies are very much richer in info - but selective and less structured. The genre of biographical dictionaries forms a middle road: much information, somewhat standardized, and with an in-between coverage. They are as yet underexplored.

I will present some examples of recent studies, zoom in on the example for status attainment of notable Swedish women, and zoom out again on the genre of biographical dictionaries as they exist in many countries. The genre is virtually untapped and a treasure trove for scholars in the humanities and social sciences. To open this treasure trove, we need digital humanities and computational social science methods and collaborators.

Registration Humlab Share Hybrid
Humlab / ZoomSeminar/en/events/humlab-share-marco-van-leeuwen_12139544/2025-10-21T13:15:00+02:002025-10-21T14:45:00+02:00/en/events/film-friday-cathy-kudlick_12144444/Film Friday: Cathy KudlickWith Cathy KudlickFri, 24 Oct 2025 13:15:00 +0200
Film Accessibility: Opportunities for Inclusion, Creativity, and Outrageousness

Join us for a screening of films like you've never seen before--literally! While fan studies scholars have emphasized the participatory and community-driven nature of fanfiction from the beginning, this dimension has yet to be fully integrated into computational literary studies. In the talk, I propose network analysis to prestructure fanfiction data from the platform Fanfiktion.de. This enables to focus further explorations on platform-based interpretive communities, allowing to trace literary meaning-making from within. In addition, I will discuss fan-oriented strategies of data collection that respect the participatory ethos of the field.
Humllab / ZoomLecture/en/events/humlab-talk-anastasia-glawion_12143398/2025-11-19T13:15:00+01:002025-11-19T14:45:00+01:00/en/events/humlab-makerspace-christmas-crafts-and-electronics_12122459/Humlab Makerspace: Christmas crafts and electronics!Do you want to build a glowing Christmas tree?Wed, 03 Dec 2025 13:00:00 +0100
Christmas is approaching, and we are holding a workshop where you will learn about electrical circuits and soldering. Thinking with onto-cartography in design research

Anja Neidhardt-Mokoena, Humlab

In design research there is a growing understanding that major parts of our discipline are involved with systems of oppression. In such discourse, design is often described as “entangled with systems of oppression” or “haunted by patriarchy”. But, what exactly does that mean? In this presentation, Anja Neidhardt-Mokoena introduces how thinking with onto-cartography, combined with a feminist approach, can support us in understanding more precisely how certain design institutions (such as design museums) reproduce systems of oppression. This is not only crucial for making sense of the current situation (in and beyond the design discipline), but also for identifying points of leverage where we can intervene and bring about positive change. The presentation is based on Anja’s PhD thesis Feminist Design Strategies for Transforming Design Museums Towards More Justice (2024, at Umeå Institute of Design and Umeå Centre for Gender Studies).

Registration Humlab Talk hybrid
Humlab / ZoomLecture/en/events/humlab-talk-anja-neidhardt-mokoena-_12142856/2025-12-04T13:15:00+01:002025-12-04T14:45:00+01:00
