Green planning: Vilhelmina as a testbed for innovative land use planning in the mountain region
Research project
In January 2016 starts a collaboration between Vilhelmina Municipality, 91传媒在线 and SLU linked to municipal comprehensive planning and the national environmental quality objective "A magnificent mountain landscape".
This is a pilot study of how the Swedish comprehensive planning could be made more knowledge-based, inclusive and anticipatory, through using available monitoring data and through applying collaborative planning methods. Policy tools that are capable of incorporating multi-level and cross-sectorial perspectives in a multifunctional landscape such as the Swedish mountain region are today lacking. The objective is to use Vilhelmina municipality as a testbed to explore how green planning and a landscape approach can be integrated and implemented, while identifying barriers to innovative land use planning in the mountains. In so doing, we will synthesize the knowledge produced by three preceding projects in phase 1 of Swedish Environmental Protection Agency鈥檚 (SEPA) mountain research program; 鈥淓xpectations and Impacts of Collaborative Environmental Governance in the Swedish Mountain Region鈥, 鈥淢ining in the Swedish Mountains: Exploring Long Term Sustainability Pathways鈥 and 鈥淎 Monitoring-Based Decision Support Toolbox for Magnificent Mountain Landscapes鈥.
