I am a PhD researcher affiliated with the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health.
My research project is about hand-intensive work with a focus on risk assessment. Are women and men risk assessed equally? An observational method is used with estimates of perceived effort for exposure of hand activity and force. In addition, corresponding technical measurements are used for wrist velocity and muscle activity. Risk assessment is essential in implementing systematic work environment management and medical check-ups such as hand-intensive work. If the quality of the risk assessment is low, the risk may be under- or overestimated. The measure can be adjusted and more adequate if the quality is high. This may contribute to reduced work-related musculoskeletal ill health and sustainable working life for women and men. This knowledge can be valuable for researchers, clinicians in the occupational health service, employers, and workers.
My work experience is as a registered physiotherapist in musculoskeletal and orthopedic disorders and as an ergonomist in occupational health. I have specialist competencies in orthopedics and ergonomics. My employment is as an ergonomist at Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Norrland University Hospital. There, I assess occupational diseases and work exposure relatedness, teach at Umeå University, and network, educate, and support ergonomists in northern Sweden.
