Blackstone-backed Lumina CloudInfra has committed to invest around US$300m (鈧278m) in its first hyperscale data centre campus in the Indian city of Mumbai.

The first phase of construction at Airoli is expected to be completed by 2025.

Lumina is owned by Blackstone鈥檚 Real Estate and Tactical Opportunities funds.

Sujeet Deshpande, CEO and co-founder of Lumina India, said there was 鈥渢remendous鈥 demand for data centres in India, which was a hub for many leading technology and IT service companies.

Lumina is expected to start work on a second site at Mahape, Navi Mumbai.

India鈥檚 data centre ecosystem is seeing robust and sustained growth, propelled by data proliferation trends. Industry capacity is expected to grow significantly in the next 1-2 years, with Mumbai to continue to lead and account for 52% of the country鈥檚 total capacity, according to industry analysts.
