Partners Group is to acquire Singapore-based data centre platform Digital Halo, with an initial $400m (鈧360m) investment planned alongside Arch Capital, which will remain a minority shareholder.
Digital Halo was launched in January 2023 with backing from Arch Capital and Manulife Investment Management.
The private markets investor said it has agreed to acquire the data centre operator from its existing shareholders, including Arch Capital, with a plan to transform Digital Halo into a data centre platform with over 500MW of data centre capacity across multiple markets in Southeast and North Asia.
Since 2021, Partners Group has invested over $4bn (鈧3.6bn) in data centres globally, with current holdings including US hyperscale platform EdgeCore, pan-Nordic platform atNorth and Australian provider GreenSquareDC.
Luv Parikh, managing director, head of infrastructure Asia at Partners Group, said: 鈥淒ata centres continue to be a thematic area of focus for us globally, and we believe that specific markets within Asia will offer significant growth opportunities in the years ahead.
鈥淲e will partner with the experienced management team at Digital Halo, which has a track record of delivering and managing data centre capacity for hyperscale and enterprise clients, and leverage Partners Group鈥檚 network of global advisers to build the preferred regional data centre operator in Asia.鈥
Jansen Ang, member of management, infrastructure Asia, Partners Group, said: 鈥淲e have spent significant time researching the data centre space in Asia. We believe the market, especially in Southeast and North Asia, continues to offer platform-building opportunities underpinned by favourable growth tailwinds.
鈥淒igital Halo in its current form, including two seed assets, of which one is partially contracted, and a third asset in the pipeline, offers us an attractive entry point.鈥
Kai Goh, CEO and co-founder of Digital Halo, said: 鈥淎fter bringing our first site in Manila into operation, securing power and all necessary building permits in Johor, and obtaining exclusivity on a third site, we are pleased to bring Partners Group on board to drive the next phase of our growth.
鈥淲e plan to build and operate next-generation, sustainable and AI-ready data centre campuses that serve the needs of both US and Asian hyperscalers and enterprises across Asia.鈥
