Temasek-backed Sembcorp Industries, through its renewables subsidiary, Sembcorp Green Infra, has been awarded a 50MW power project by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

This build-own-operate project is part of SECI’s 1.2GW tender for round-the-clock (RTC) power from Inter State Transmission System-connected renewable energy projects.

Sembcorp will integrate approximately 300MW installed capacity comprising solar, wind and battery energy storage solutions (BESS) to meet the contracted capacity.

Subject to the execution of a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SECI and upon completion of the project, the Singapore company will supply RTC renewable power supported by BESS to SECI.

The project is expected to be ready for commercial operation within 24 months from the date of signing the PPA.

Sembcorp said the Indian power project would be funded through a mix of internal funds and debt.

With this project, Sembcorp will deepen its renewables capabilities in India, taking its gross renewables capacity to more than 6.5GW.
