I am docent in mathematical statistics and in statistics, and professor emeritus at CEDAR. My field of research may be described as demography, demometry and survival analysis with applications in mortality and fertility. At present I am investigating mortality among Swedish centenarians and how it varies between groups of people (dosesn't vary at all ...).

My demographic research career started in 1979, when I got my Ph. D. in mathematical statistics, and immediately after that was hired as a researcher by the Demographic Data Base, Umeå University. I was appointed associate professor of Mathematical Statistics in 1986, and of Statistics in 1998. In 1999, I was appointed professor of Statistics at Umeå
University.
I have been working at Umeå University most of the time, but I have had shorter employments at the universities of Lund, Malmö, and Göteborg, and also at Chalmers University of Technology, Göteborg.
