plans to target distressed hotel investments and has appointed a new managing director of hospitality investments.
The pan-European real estate fund manager said it planned to expand its activities in the hotel market and has hired Luc Boschmans from Archer Hotel Capital, which is co-owned by institutional investors APG and GIC.
Boschmans spent a decade managing a pan-European luxury hotel portfolio at Archer, which was previously Host Hotels & Resorts.
Boschmans will join Tristan鈥檚 hospitality team to work alongside executive director Kristian Smyth and Chris Kusuma, who also joined this month as an associate director.
Ali Otmar, deputy head of investments, to whom Boschmans will report, said: 鈥淒espite the current headwinds hotels are facing worldwide, we are optimistic about the recovery and long-term fundamentals in the industry.
鈥淲e believe that the sector offers valuable diversification benefits for our clients and, with around 鈧3bn of combined fire power across both our core-plus and opportunistic fund series, we view the sector as a strategic, long-term opportunity for Tristan.
鈥淥ver the past few years we have completed seven hotel investments, and we believe that the combination of Luc鈥檚 expertise, Kristian鈥檚 investment experience and our extensive network of joint venture partners gives us a competitive advantage as we ramp up our efforts in the sector.
鈥淥ur plan is to focus on the opportunities arising from the COVID crisis this year as we work to establish Tristan as a long-term player in hospitality.鈥
